09/17/2011 - Songdo, South Korea (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Michael Allen won the first time he played on the Champions Tour in 2009, but he has yet to repeat the feat.
It's looking like the drought might end on Sunday.
After shooting a four-under 68 on Saturday, he's got a one-stroke lead at the Songdo Championship Korea with one round to play. Allen entered the day in a three-way tie for first, but took control with a five-birdie, one-bogey round at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea to move to 10-under 134 overall.
"I'm going to have to go out and beat the golf course (Sunday)," Allen said on television of his prospects for a win. "All these other guys are great players. It's going to be tough. I'll have to make some birdies."
It was his putter that helped him take the lead Saturday, making several long- distance putts for birdies. He takes the lead into the final round for the third time on the Champions Tour, having converted one of the two previous attempts at the 2009 Senior PGA Championship.
Lurking behind Allen are John Cook and Jay Don Blake, both of whom shot five- under 67 to get to nine-under overall. Cook already has three wins this year and eight on the Champions Tour overall, while Blake is still in search of his first win on tour.
Both of Allen's playing partners couldn't keep up on Saturday, as David Peoples (70) slipped into a share of fourth with Mark O'Meara at eight-under and Mark Calcavecchia (72) fell to ninth alongside Tom Pernice, Jr. (70) at minus-six.
Allen played well over the front nine, eventually separating himself from the pack near the midway point of his round.
He began with a birdie at the first, and Allen rolled in a 12-footer for birdie at the fifth to get to eight-under, tied with Calcavecchia and O'Meara at the time.
Allen's best putt of the day came at the eighth, where he landed his tee shot 20 feet away from the pin and sank the ensuing putt to get to minus-nine and sole possession of the lead.
He wasn't done, hitting a 15-footer for birdie at the 10th to move two clear, and it became a three-shot margin after a birdie at the 14th.
However, Allen bogeyed the 15th and soon saw his three-stroke lead shrink to one after Cook and Blake both closed with birdies. Allen was unable to do the same, finding a fairway bunker on the 18th and another one beside the green.
Allen was able to two-putt successfully on the final hole to maintain his advantage over his to-be playing partners on Sunday.
"I try not to (look at the leaderboard)," Allen said on TV. "For the most part, I just -- less distractions is a good thing for me. If I can beat the golf course, I'll have a chance tomorrow."
Rod Spittle (66), Bernhard Langer (67) and Charles Schwab points leader Tom Lehman (67) share sixth at seven-under. Defending champion Russ Cochran shot a two-under 70 and is in 11th at minus-five.
NOTES: Spittle's 66 was the best round of the day...Blake hasn't won professionally since 1991...Chien Soon Lu aced the par-three 17th on Saturday...Spittle and Langer are the lone non-Americans in the top 10.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds
Will he or won't he? Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.
Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.
"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."
Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.
Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.
But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.
Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback. It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.
Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.
